Awards Given for Career and Technical Education
Business, Industry Partnerships & Others
Recognized for Contributions
The Virginia Department of Education (VDOE) with assistance from the Virginia Advisory Committee for Career and Technical Education (VACTEA), the Virginia Career Education Foundation (VCEF) and the Virginia Community College System (VCCS) this week recognized outstanding work of business and industry representatives in promoting career and technical education (CTE), as well as the efforts of educators in providing exceptional instruction and positive outcomes for students. Virginia Secretary of Education Thomas R. Morris was the featured speaker at the Monday awards presentation in Richmond.
The Virginia Parent Teacher Association was recognized with the Distinguished Service Award for outstanding support of career and technical education.
VDOE presented the following 2008 state awards:
- State Individual Award
- Trina Gravitt Vaughan of Halifax County High School for developing an equine studies program (Region 8)
- State Group Awards
- Mac Beaton, Brad Beasley and Bruce Watson of Henrico County Public Schools for “Wheeling in the Careers: A Mobile, Technology-Equipped Classroom with Resources and Projects for Students of All Grade Levels” (Region 1)
- Denise Wiggins of Norfolk Technical Center for “Faces of Success” (Region 2)
- State Advisory Council/Committee School Division or Joint Technical Center Award
- Bridging Communities Regional CTE Advisory Council, which represents King and Queen, King William and Middlesex counties (Region 3)
- State Business and Industry Partnership School Division or Joint Technical Center Award
- Renaissance Portsmouth Hotel and Waterfront Conference Center for its partnership with Portsmouth Public Schools (Region 2)
