Nutrition is an important part of the education process; studies show that well-nourished students are better prepared to learn. VDOE is committed to helping school divisions make nutritious meals available to every school child in Virginia and to educating children to make healthful choices that will enhance their academic and physical performances and promote lifelong health.
In Virginia, communities depend on the school nutrition program to nourish students each and every school day. On average 681,505 lunches, 196,987 breakfasts and 7,240 afterschool snacks are served to Virginia students each day.
